MGB GT 1978..Just put on new leads, dist. cap, coil and am fairly sure I got the leads back in the right order on the dist. cap. It goes, it starts but it is making

a hell of a noise by exploding fuel through the carbs and then via the

exhaust pipe.

I know you will say timing. I have now spent a lot of time changing the leads around re-timing it from tdc on the crank pulley etc. It has just passed its MoT. I want to use the car but the dear old ladies of Largs are suffering from ...

Hi,

Hope someone can offer some advice.

My wife picked up a 2004 MGTF (1.6 litre 115) from a local car dealer today and surprisingly was told that despite being handed a remote key fob which apparently controls the immobiliser/alarm, it does not lock or unlock the doors therefore after disarming the immobiliser/alarm with the remote fob she then has to use the key to unlock the driver door.

Are you able to confirm that this is indeed the case as the fob has two rubber buttons on it (one ...

When we decided to get Mary a TF as her everyday car, I wanted to get a post 2004 one because with the 2003 re-design, head gasket failure was no longer an issue. I don't really have time for "own car" repairs!

However I had to retrieve said car on the breakdown trailer on monday because of -- Head Gasket Failure. So later cars dont blow head gaskets? yes they @@@@ing do! And it has only done 21,000 miles.

The usual sump full of emulsified oil is oh so familiar. Well the head is ...

v8 inlet manifold composite gasket

Spent this afternoon stripping the carbs and inlet manifold off the V8

and the manifold gasket put up a good fight on removal due to the liberal amount of sealant applied. Due to the makeup of the new composite gasket I presume no sealant need be applied around the water ports ? Manifold is now off to get powder coated so I have time to ponder the question.

Thanks and regards:)

We wanted to fit foglights to the TF. Just knockout the blanking plate and pop them in I thought, however it is proving impossible to source a fog light wiring harness, and you do need one. Both lamps, the relay, and the switch have special multi pin plugs which cant be "knife and forked". In the old days you wired up lamps with a roll of wire and a box of terminals!

So anyone out there with a TF, if you don't have foglights - keep it that way!!

PS if your TF is pre 2004 [which ...
