J2 spark plugs

Post by guest on Tue Apr 22, 2008 9:57 am

I guess this is one for Dave!!

What spark plugs should I be using in a J2?
Long or short reach?
If I use long reach does this matter in a "standard" engine?

(This is the first time I've used this website & like Dave I'm finding it somewhat difficult to navigate to find what I want.... (not a tulip diagram in sight...)

Ring me if you have any difficulty, it will just be a matter of mastering the "logic" of it all, it maybe hard to believe but there is a logic to it all, do ring, don't struggle, it's frustrating and time consuminig, 5-10 mins on the phone will save hours. J2 spark plugs

I would use short reach [1/2inch] champion L87Y or NGK BP6HS.
Long reach [3/4 inch] plugs extend into the flame pathcut out in the head and will take the edge of the performance - and as we triple M guys know, you need every BHP available!!

For what it's worth, I've used BP6HS for years on my PA (now bored to PB). I recently upped the compression ratio to 8.5:1, and found it starting to misfire slightly under a long load (full throttle up a long hill). I eventually solved this by using harder BP7HS plugs. However, it now has a slight tendency to misfire if I leave it ticking over for too long, so I have to play boy racer at the traffic lights - vroom vroom!

(Who said I'm a boy racer anyway?!)

Colin.
