MG TF Remote locking

Post  the sain on Sat Aug 16, 2008 2:06 am

Hi,

Hope someone can offer some advice.

My wife picked up a 2004 MGTF (1.6 litre 115) from a local car dealer today and surprisingly was told that despite being handed a remote key fob which apparently controls the immobiliser/alarm, it does not lock or unlock the doors therefore after disarming the immobiliser/alarm with the remote fob she then has to use the key to unlock the driver door.

Are you able to confirm that this is indeed the case as the fob has two rubber buttons on it (one with a closed padlock and one with an open padlock) which i took to mean it had remote central locking. Just want to make sure it's not a fault with the mechanism.

Thanks in advance.

I've just noticed elsewhere on the internet a post from a few years ago that someone else discovered the same thing. There was talk then that they could have it fitted by fitting an actuator??? from another TF model. Can anyone advise if this is indeed possible, practical and from where such a part would be got.

Thanks again

Have you checked the battery in the keyfob, these keyfobs do need to be close to the car, I have to be within 2/3 feet in order to get mine to work.

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried being right up against the car with no joy. I think it may be that it doesn't have it fitted albeit i find it surprising for a relatively new car. As i mentioned this issue was highlighted on a thread on another website from a few years ago. Now trying to find out if any one can recommend a garage/mechanic/auto electrician who would be worth contacting.

TF Remote Locking

Post  TD2 on Sat Aug 16, 2008 7:42 pm

Hi Willie,

My 135, also 2004, has remote locking.
Perhaps it is an issue related to model. Enquiry at the MGF TF Central website might help shed some light.

MG TF Remote locking

Post  mitchmg on Sun Aug 17, 2008 5:04 pm

Sorry to be a killjoy but according to the 2004 brochure the TF 115 was indeed not fitted with central locking as standard and looks like it was also not available as an option either. Have you got a lock on each door ? If you have that confirms the above as those fitted with central locking only have a drivers door keylock.
Anyway enjoy your new car Smile Smile and make the most of the summer.
Cheers
