Safety Fast report
Received my copy of June SF & looked for the 3 day run report. Found it -- I'm disappointed!
Not in the text report but;
Why does our 3 day event only merit 1 page when the Royal Windsor MG Festival ( pages 20/21) merits 2 pages for 1 day! ( It's not even a MGCC only event)
Why do we have only 3 pics ( 2 of them are miniscule!) when the above event has 11!
Why is ours printed on a black background -- looks more like an obituary!
Surely the main event of the Caledonian Centre with 3 days of travel, 2 vice presidents present, 1 far flung overseas member present, 75 or so cars & 150 or so members merits better than SF have supplied!!
[If SF was short on space the article should have been carried on to July.
I think the appearance & layout of the article totally fails to capture the spirit & atmosphere of the event.
What do you think?

That' s a fair point cur10k. I agree, the description and content was great but I also have a strong personal dislike for text printed on coloured background. Some graphic luvvies think it' s arty, I think its just plain stupid!!! What' s wrong with good old black print on a white or very lightly coloured background.
Whilst I know we cannot always dictate terms, another gripe I have is left hand pages. I never think (and know) they hit the spot anythng like a right hand page. As you open and turn over the magazine pages from front to back, your eye is always drawn to the right hand page. We used to do a lot of magazine marketing and sometimes we had no option but to take a left page, which invariably had infinitely less response.
Getting back on track, yes it is the major event in Scottish MG circles and has developed into one of the most prestigious and significant official MG events anywhere. The quality of the administration / organisation and range of cars is second to none. With hindsight, we perhaps should have pushed them for an appropriate two page spread, with lots of wonderful scenic photographs which we have an abundance of.
However to be fair to them, it may have been a particularly large issue and their page numbers will be controlled. An extra page means an extra two pages either side of the staple and can effect postage. I don't know what their maximum number of pages is, but it will certainly be controlled by printing/postage costs. Might be worth considering waiting for a quieter month if it enables and ensures extra coverage.
On a personal note last year at Glamis we had a two page write up (when we only anticipated one) and they really did a wonderful job. Perhaps that was a month where they had extra space to fill. Who knows..
I did like the lead photograph of the snow covered windscreen shot. I thought that it stood out and caught the atmosphere. However, the others were ineffective due to size.
Certainly some points to watch in the future with perhaps a polite request for layout proofs prior to print.

Re: Praise for the Three Day Scenic Tour - May 2009
Not had a chance to read the article yet but will do tonight over a wee G & T.
The whole thing is though, the amount of time these articles have to be with Andy Knott before they go in the next issue.
To have a report on the May run in July just wouldn't be good enough. Many have short memories and don't seem to dwell on any particular run/event and move quickly on to the next one on the calendar.
That's my view anyway.
Will have a look tonight and give my opinion.

Re: Praise for the Three Day Scenic Tour - May 2009
Looks ok. I suppose the pictures could have been bigger, and whilst I love Douglas Arthur's picture through the windscreen they could have faded the black down the page.
In comparison, I think the windsor pictures weren't that great and could have been dropped and given more space for the Caley pictures.
Looks like a Duke beats a pair of Vice Presidents in this game.
(I stole that from my better half).

Re: Praise for the Three Day Scenic Tour - May 2009
It crossed my mind that you might clock that......
No, I found 5 minutes in my busy schedule between babysitting and gardening and read the article with a cup of coffee.
By the way.....
I've had a great big huge enormous MG Caledonian flag flying a 100 feet high (well maybe 20) in the middle of my garden today. Looks absolutely fantastic (in my opinion) but a certain person is a little disappointed.
Gonna try and post a picture. Hope it works.

It will continue to fly over Forth Park Towers, while our great leader dictates to HW his declaration of UDI from editorial influence in respect of Caley reports in SF.
If our great leader's demand is not met forthwith by Abingdon HQ then Caley subscriptions will be withheld.
If that doesn't get us 2 pages & more pics next time I don't know what will........
And BTW HW I'm only on a glass of redwine!

Sorry to go off topic a bit, but is that you celebrating your 300th post? Well done, now there must be a prize for 500, surely. Any suggestions!?
Wish I could join you on the celebrations, but I ' m gong through cold turkey at the moment. I'm on a course of antibiotics from the Dentist with a very stern warning not to have a drop of the amber nectar. Its not going to be an easy weekend. Wish I had a cat to kick. Sorry pet owners only joking.

Sorry I missed your request for helphappy wanderer wrote:I have given up finding a way to put the picture up on this forum. Can't do it.![]()
When you are creating your posting go to "Host an image", login or register and then in the "upload your Image" box navigate to your "picture" on your computer (it must be a bmp, jpg, png, gif, tif file) and press the "Host it" button. In the next part you will see the picture that you have just "uploaded" now go to the "BB Code" box and select the second option and then the "copy" button , this will copy the code and all you then do is paste it into your "posting"
Well I think that is what I did to get this picture in. Try it and see what happens
Admin late again
