Well, I thought is was brilliant! Sure the weather was mixed ( snow!) but the roads were superb & the scenery stunning. The hotel was far better than I expected & I think they excelled them selves with the service on both Saturday & Sunday nights.

The Canadian guests loved it & are talking of coming back -- with some more MGCC people.

Have not heard one word of criticism!

Well done to all concerned!cheers cheers cheers

Can you do me a favour Question

I'm about to put a posting on Trip Adviser about the Hotel. There's plenty bad stuff about the hotel on there. It has even been compared to a barn on one posting. These things are only someone's opinion after all.

Please can some of you guys maybe do the same.

People are only to happy to complain when we all go to hotels but when things are fine we do nothing.

Go on, give them something to be proud of. cheers

Superb !!!
Many many thanks to David and Jackie, Keith and Juliet, Willy and Penny and to all those involved for their exceptional hard work in organising such a wonderful tour. The attention to all detail was incredible and of the highest possible standard. Thanks also to the sponsors and the donors for their kindness and generosity. Very much appreciated. The roads, the route and the company was superb and as TD2 points out, the weather added its own dimension that created its own atmosphere and in no way detracted from the enjoyment
Great service in the Hotel, wonderful food and excellent value.
This was my first 3 day tour and it will be remembered forever with extreme fondness.
Well done......................

Over and above all that been said about this fabulous weekend, and it was truly superb, (as I said in an earlier posting) and a credit to everyone involved, ..........on a separate issue how did the team get on with Dave Stewart's quiz?
Some tricky questions, albeit our table got 22.5 points, just 1 point behind the winners. We had a few petrol heads at our table and we quickly got through the MG questions, but stumbled on the TD production date. I would have put anything on it beng 1950, but apparently it was 1949, must have been very very late. Nice sneaky queston that. We even got the correct reg for old number 1, and of course the exact production number for the Twin Cam. Our girls left us to the MG questions and did very well with the general knowledge, but alas not enough. Must get more books and reference material looked out for next year!
Any idea which table won, congratulations are due to them.

Post  TD2 on Thu May 07, 2009 4:30 pm

Very Happy

Thank goodness for the MG questions!

Of course TD production commenced in November 1949! Records show 98 rolled off the line that year.

We fell down on useless information like who was the lawyer in the musical Chicago etc. but stormed through to take the goodies.

The winning team was made up of cars: 1, 5, 6, and 12.

Well done, I thought you might know the TD question, with a nom de plume like that!
Funnily enough, our table knew the Chicago question!

We got the TD production date correct but not a B series engine sizes or the number of twin cams. I think these questions were included last year so there was no excuse.....Embarassed Embarassed

And Dave S usually includes a twin cam question or three so swot up for next year!Wink Wink

All of us ( well 6 of us!) agree that the weekend was superb BUT!

I thought the same of the '08 & '07 & '06 run etc etc

SO what made this one SOooooooo good?

Was it Skye? -- not everyone went round the island

Was it the longer drives?

Or what?

PS Would be good to get a view from others who don't post so often!

Yes, Good idea. Personally, I loved it because it was new ground and not covered on any run I had been on before.
It was so different.
But then I have this problem with many things. The one thing I hate to hear anyone saying is "It's not the same".
Like Christmas or New Year, you know what I mean.

Phew.............well that's the car 'clean-athon' finished. In total, 8 hours of cleaning under, inside and outside the trusted stead. Wheels off, wheel arches, floor tub, supension and steering parts cleaned. Inside re-valeted and body washed down and polished. Its always a big clean after a long wet run, but I wouldn't have missed the experience for the World.
Wish we were all doing it again tomorrow......ah well, only 51 weeks to go.

Incidentally, anyone got any tips of cleaning wires? It's a bit of a nightmare. I have cloths poked inbetween the spokes on the end of bits of wood and screwdrivers, even use a toothbrush! (not my everyday one I hasten to add).
Must be an easier way........don't say it, change to minilights.

Cleaning spokes

Post  jim on Mon May 11, 2009 7:33 pm

I have had this conversation with Dutch folk. We all agree that the best way is wheel off and do it from both sides at the same time. There is no easy solution. You just have to be a man and get stuck in, alternatively promise the wife some plastic surgery and get her to do it.

We loved the event despite the weather, and I too thought that Tom and his staff at the Dunollie did a great job. In "value for money" terms, the Dunollie takes some beating.
There seemed to be be less breakdowns this year, just Gregor Kent and Alistair Cowe - as far as I am aware. The only other thing I did was change the polarity on Geoff James's P type coil - and I've had feedback from him that the car is going much better since!
The thing I love about MG outings is the people - there are more "real genuine" folks with MGs than any other car make - but maybe I'm just a wee bit biased!!

I haven't played it yet, but my CD has also arrived.
Many thanks to all those involved in compiling and producing this wonderful momento. We really are so lucky and fortunate to have such wonderful hard working people putting so much into this Centre. Well done for all their efforts, very much appreciated. Looking forward to sitting down with beer and reliving all the action.

Interested to know how many play on the TV. So much better if it does.

The chap at PC world said it's a bit of a hit and miss with these things.

Out of six different machines that we tried it played on all but one.

Cleaning wires

Post  jim on Sat May 16, 2009 7:56 pm

Suggest a run before "bob-a-job" week. Does it still exist? If so, you can get a couple of boy scouts to do your wires, but by now though, it is probably 50 quid a job.
